VW uprights?

Postby Land Locked on Tue Sep 08, 2009 9:44 am

Ross posted a while back regarding VW uprights.

Any news or developments on this?

I am more than a little interested in this, as I start my build in the next few weeks.

I presume you mean for rear upright? I had done some research on this and it certainly is possible, one problem though it the steering arm is not in the same plane as the bottom balljoint, therefore you will have to be very careful with the suspension geometry to avoid rear wheel bump steer.

I found someone who will make a rear upright using the VW hub an bearing for R2500, not cheap but the workmanship is excellent.

I wish :(
Its R2500 each, but I think its worth it. The bearing carrier is machined out of a solid chuck of steel (and not a tube like some people do) The end product is only 1kg heavier than the Birkin ali upright.

The uprights I was talking about are for the front. Greg Hart has fabricated a set and has them on his car. Andre' also has a set, I think, but I don't know if he's fitted them yet. They're based on Sierra geometry but they accept VW componenets.
