Alternator

Postby Garreth on Sun Sep 01, 2013 2:47 pm

Hi Guys,

So busy wiring up the car yesterday (not the ECU yet just the lights etc.), all is going well until the positive lead touches the battery....short circuit...

The alternator had a smack in transport somewhere, and didn't see this until now. Not a big crack but its safe to say I wont be able to use this alternator. :(

What is the going price for a new alternator?
Can anyone help me out?

Should I go back to Jap Auto and try get them to replace it even though I bought the motor last year sometime?

Cheers

It's highly unlikely that they would admit to anything , so long run, it's probably going to cost.
It might be worth asking the question though.
How bad is it , it may be fixable if you're prepared to do some careful work.
A pic would help.

Unfortunately i cannot comment as to price.
If they won't replace , i would have a go at fixing first , dependent on the damage of course!
It may cost you no more than time!

It's a bit difficult to tell exactly what i'm looking at, the eye's are starting to fail at my age  , but it looks as though your diode mounting plate has been damaged , it might be worth a trip to someone like "Diesel electric" to see if they have a complete replacement.

Alternatively i know some guys were using alternators from Toyo forklifts , just can't remember offhand where i saw this, may have been in one of the post's on this site.

Hi Garreth
I'm pretty sure I've got an alternator here somewhere, I'll have a look and let you know.
