Water Temp Sender Location

Postby Joose on Sun Jul 24, 2011 12:09 pm

Hi Guys,

I am currently trying to wire in my water temp sender and am not sure where it should go. One of the locations I have thought of, and which would be pretty easy to do is the heater pipes. They have been blocked off, but it would be pretty simple to put the sender there. Is this a good idea? Is the water temperature at these pipes an accurate measure of the engine water temp, or is it lower?

thanks,

Gary

There should be a spare tapped hole in the thermostat housing that you can use, pretty sure the original temp sensor was located there.

Yeah I did see it, but there is not enough space there on my car to fit the sender - it would foul the chassis. So I either have to make a new hole in the thermostat housing and tap it out, or just use the heater pipes which are blocked off anyway. The heater pipes seem easier but I am not sure how the water temp differs there from the rest of the engine... Is it lower?

Well, if it is easily done, try it and see what temps you get. But yes the temp will be lower

Can you maybe fit a m/f elbow to turn it through 90 degrees; away from the chassis?
