Help with 1.8 toyota splitbox

Postby Vauxhall on Mon Dec 16, 2013 9:30 pm

Hi all

Managed to track down a splitbox that came of a toyota 1.8 rwd
Im waiting on shipment i cant do anything on the chassis its so near completion just need to fab engine mounts and gearbox mounts

Just want to find out how hard is it to mate that box onto a 4ge
Will i need a belhousing
And what mods needs to be done to make the clutch work
Will the mondeo cluth slave cylinder work?
And also what mods needs to be done on the flywheel to fit a bearing
And also what bearing do i fit in the flywheel

All input is much appreciated
Thanks guys

Mating the box is not a problem but you will need a bell housing, does the box that you've found have any kind of bell housing coming with it? If not your going to have to find a Toyota bell housing with 4A stamped on the top which will directly mate the box to the engine.

Regarding the clutch, I'm running a Fiesta concentric clutch release bearing, but I'm sure a Mondeo release bearing will work just as well. Most of the concentric clutch mods I've seen use the standard bell housing with stand off tubes to put the release bearing in the right position relative to the clutch pressure plate. Personally I think this is flawed engineering and I had a spacer machined to make the fiesta arrangement work, this meant having to machine a flat surface on the inside rear of the bell housing to get a sealing face for the spacer; the spacer is machined internally to accept the necessary oil seal.
