Removal of Ford type 2 gearlever

Postby Jolly Jim on Fri Aug 30, 2013 6:30 pm

Evening All

My cars' Ford type 2 gearbox is stuck in reverse. This could be due to a broken selector fork situated at the bottom of the gearbox. Question is; how do I remove the gearlever? The gearlever has something like castellated tabs at the base of the gearlaver that seems to be bent over the lip of the gearlever opening into the gearbox. Do I need to bend the tabs open to remove the gearlever? Can this be done with the gearbox in situ, or should the gearbox be removed from the car? Where can I source sparescfor a Ford type 2 gearbox, preferably in the Centurion area?
All advise gladly received.

Lift the tabs and unscrew the lever assembly , be careful not to loose the little nylon horse shoe between the lever fork and the selector rod , should it come out. Can be done "in situ" , will make removing the box easier.
