Donor car blues

Postby cassidy on Wed Aug 11, 2004 4:30 am

Jeez, louis - been trying for more than 2 weeks to get the engine number for the XR6 engine I want to buy. I'm getting a bit wary of this deal.

Other option I've been thinking of is getting an old Mazda 323 RWD as a donor and chuck in a 13B rotary

Or use a Mazda 2.0 FE 8v engine (which I can get for free), but I have'nt got a clue which gearboxes/diffs will mate to this engine.

Any advice?

Regards.

Stay away from an essex V6, lazy and way too heavy for a 7. The Mazda 2.0 sound like a much better idea, but dont have ideas wrt gearbox

Probably have'nt seen my other threads. Jumped into the deep end and bought a carb fed BMW 2.5 L 6 cylinder engine.

I may dump it when the time comes, who knows.

Much better choice than the essex IMHO. You're building a +442 right? In that case fitting it into the engine bay shouldn't be too difficult, but might battle with space lengthwise.

I assume you'll be using the BMW GB as well? Just check it for size, you might have to modify the transmission tunnel. With the long engine you might need to move the GB back compared to the standard car and might have trouble with the bellhousing fouling on the tunnel entrance.

Yep +442.

I figure on getting a BMW gearbox yes - think it'll spare me a lot of trouble.

Thought of using a 5spd Cressida gearbox but the cost of bellhousing adapters too expensive.

Stick to a BMW gearbox, no sense in trying to adapt a cressida geabrox when you already have a bolt on solution.
