Lliam's Rebuild

Postby Roach on Tue Jun 20, 2006 11:32 pm

Hi All....

Just thought I'd fill you all in on my challenge

I Bought this car from Muller in march/april, and as you can see I've completely stripped it!!!! There were too many things I could see were wrong from the outside so thought it best to see deeper!!!
Hoping to have it ready to race in about september, but this is only an estimate...

Cheers

Lliam

Guess I kinda knew it had to be done, but never had the time or inclination to do it.

Good luck with the rebuild!

BTW what series are you planning on racing in? Lotus Challenge?

Hi Lliam

Good luck with the rebuild.

Why don't you fit a Rocam engine and race class B Lotus Challenge? Later on you can race with us when we start a series based on the Rocam as power plant.

Well in future, I'd like to put a toyota 2.0l twin cam in but for now on a very limited budget!!!!

So I have fully rebuilt the kent, think it's gonna be much stronger than before because It was the biggest mess, Don't know how i made it from centurion to jhb in one piece....

The thrust washers were in the sump to start

Fully resprayed and overhauled kent, It was great fun overhauling this engine, and i learned alot!!!

Those kents are known to be virtually indestructable, and you've given more proof.

BTW what cam does the engine have?

Ok, just make sure that a 3SGE will fit, they are a fair bit bigger then say a 4AGE.

What is your budget for rebuild so far, and how much do you think you'll overspend on it ? :)

Hi All,

The Rebuild has definitely taken longer than anticipated. After spending 18 months in London, and starting a company I'm sure you'll understand.

Things are moving on, started rebuilding the side panels after the ones I made were stolen and probably sold for scrap ali.
Engine, Gearbox, Diff in!

So far so good!

I'm looking for a new nose-cone? Any ideas where I can get one to fit? At a good price(cash is scarce)? Also in need of the dash/scuttle piece as that was also stolen! What is recommended here, as it has a fold on the front for the bonnet to sit on?

Hopefully see you all on the track soon...

hi Liam,
Good Irish name that! Looking at the photos it seems as though you are fairly handy with sheet metal. I have made three all aluminium scuttles, and i would be more tha willing to help you with one for your car. I don't think the locost scuttle would work with your chassis as I think that the tubular scuttle frame would interfere with the scuttle. If you're interested then pm me with your e mail address and I'll send you photos of the scuttle I've just finished making for Greg. I also have a mould for a nose cone that fits the locost chassis.
Cheers,
Ross

So after 5+ Years, My lotus has finally been reunited with the earth!!! It feels fantastic! Now to finish shouldn't take too much longer, I've learned my lesson, never set a date.

I'm sure I'll be seeing you all on a track very soon though!
